I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but in the same vein, I'm looking for a Mould for my 40 LR, but I'm looking for something other than a RB. I considered getting a mould for a 40 s&w, 180 grain and see how it works, but any advice on the mould will be great.

Not sure you're going to get it to seal in the bore. Lead bullet diameter is .401. Don't thing that's going to expand enough to fill up the rifling.

A worthy topic for sure, but I bet that in the next little while you'll find it moved to another section.

I was thinking if I could get a mold in close to groove diameter then it would be similiar to a maxi bullet, especially if Cast from soft lead. If I find one w large grease grooves it'll be real close to a maxi....its worth a shot.

You might PM member 'oldnamvet'...he had a custom .40cal mold made for a 200grn REAL conical.
Did some range and field testing with him.
Extremely accurate out of the .40cal Late Lancaster I used it in, took a beautiful 8 pointer with it, etc.

Been wondering if a mold couldn't be cooked up to work in the revolver as well as the GM .40 rifle.
That design would prob'ly work in the .41 caliber 1858 Remington too.

Great, I think a 175 gr soft lead swc should do a number on a deer or hog.
What kind of load do you use with the swc?

65gr 3f felt wad 175 swc only killed to does both inside 50yds one went 20 yards the other 5 yards both lungs

Suggest Getting some lead bullets for a .41 Mag and try them. Should be very little over .410 dia if any.

Nearly all magnum pistol bullets are cast pretty hard... that coupled with being oversize might make them a bear to load. I'll be honest I haven't measured my .40, I'll take a measurement before I buy a mould.
I had some Lee wadcutters for a 58 that were cast hard...I tried to shoot some, I pounded one down the bore with a hammer and had enough. I'm gonna melt them down for my 44 mag.
