When using wads wet with olive oil between the powder and ball does the oil migrate into the powder and cause a misfire? Do you have to unload your gun at the end of the day or can you leave it loaded for several days?

Percy
The leather holds the oil . Never had an issue and yes have kept guns loaded for weeks.

Love your posts.
I can't speak to your smooth rifle but will relate my experience with .445" prb.
In two rifles with Douglas barrels, a .440" ball and ticking patching will not keep five shots on paper at 100 yards. But with a .445", same patch and lube will group beautifully. It is not an easy load and is only used on the range with short/long starters, mallet and heavy steel loading rod. Results will vary for different folks and guns. In Yank speak: Do yer own thang.

Interesting because I have a Lyman .445" mold and when I shoot those alongside the .440" ball, there little difference in the velocities, ease of loading and accuracy. got to say, though, that when I measured the Lyman ball dia. with calipers, they were more like around .443".
