I have a beartooth 50 cal/24" barrel, worse gun for shooting R Bs I have, shoots the little green about 1" long cuped on both ends sabots and a 490 RB beautiful. use it for wood chucks. would like to fine some more.anybody got a few you like to get rid of

I thought they quit making them a few years ago because the ball could roll forward and become a barrel obstruction??? :hmm:

BTW, this place still sells tham...

thanks muskeman, that what I was looking for. I heard that the ball could fall out, and try to get the ball to come out.no luck. with out the sabot the ball rolls out with no trouble

I've read a little on these. They are longer, like a Sabot for a conical, with petals that come up around the RB almost to the top. The old ones I remember were a little cup that didn't cover much of the RB, maybe barely the bottom half. That's why they sometimes worked themselves loose.

T/C sells all lead cheap shot sabots in 240 grain hp....i think the bullet is a .44 pistol bullet....they do a job on deer for real....might want to take a look at them....i use them in my 1/48 for reg deer season with 80 grains powder..........bob

I can't see what benefits a sabot for a RB would have over a patch, actually. You said your gun shoots poorly with RB and that the ball rolls out without a sabot? Were you using a patch with the RB before you tried sabots? If so, then you need to use a larger ball and thicker patch. It should never "roll out" and in fact, should be very tight.

thanls white buffalo,I use 44 xtp 240 grain/80 grams prodex FF.for deer. I am 69 and my eyes are not as good as once was. the beartooth has a 3-9 scope so I use it must of the time.easy to clean too..I use my T.C. flinker fot shoots.

I have shot many patch RBs though it. to fast of a twist.I try to get a RB to fall out of the sabot by bumping the end of the barrel on the ground. unloaded of couse.and I didn`t get one to come out.take the plug out of the back and you can throw a RB though both ends..can`t see how it could get jam

cheap shots are made after that same bullet but all lead..............bob

HOLY MOLY! :shocked2: I just went to the site and scrolled down a little. Looks like Hornaday has a new product called "Hardball" a swaged ball with a mix of lead and antimony (?). $13 for 20!!! or $65 for 100. :youcrazy:

Some of the few things I learned early when I started this was to not use plastic, use pure soft lead only and never put smokeless powder down your barrel. I've seen ads (for those things that shall not be mentioned) that blows all of that out of the water! It sometimes makes me wish I could just disappear in Idaho. :(

Ahh I get it now. I'm surprised that the sabot shoots better though. Bet that lays a serious whallop on chucks! hehe

At the price they are selling them for I believe I would opt for a gun that did well with PRB instead- then shoot 2 PRB's if more knock-down was needed.
