5" barrel 1858 thoughts

I have 2 of the 5.5 from cabelas, like them both, have worked on the cylinders to accept a snail drum capper.
balance is great not nearly as nose heavy as the longer one

How did you modify the cylinders? I have big old fat fingers and handling individual caps is 'interesting'. I can use cappers for everything except the Remingtons.

Mine has its own unique sound on detonation ... a deeper more prolonged boom and it is extremely accurate with .380 round ball.

Same here, the round balls fly supersonic!

Ted Cash Universal Straight Line Capper works just fine for Pietta Remington sixguns.

I use TC and Traditions straight-line cappers on Pietta Rems and Colts and they fit good for me. If they did not fit I would be inclined to modify the capper itself rather than the cylinder cone ports.

That be why I swear Ill never leave AZ.. I HATE humidity! I can deal with cold I suppose, though it tends to be painful. But humidity kills me

Humidity is strange stuff to live in. I grew up in SoCal where it hit around 105º in July. We never had Air conditioning. Moved to Ohio, where humidity was a serious problem. Parents put AC into the house the next summer & next car they bought had AC, too. Had a house near Dayton with a toilet that ran on water condensed from the air with dehumidifier - got over a gallon of water outta the air every few hours.
Moved to AZ at first opportunity & complain about the "humidity" during the Monsoon season - but it's nothing like humidity back east.

I read somewhere that folks may take a year or so to adjust to a cold climate, but most never adapt to a humid one.
