right now i am shooting a .490 ball and .018 patch 44" swamped rice 1:66 for hunting what else can i shoot other than roundball.

I have never had good results shooting mini's or maxi balls out of a 1/66 twist. But I did have fairly good results shooting a 530 ball that was sized down to 490 leaving a "bearing band". It gave a significantly heavier bullet and held good groups. :idunno:

You might take a look at these PA Conicals by Hornady. They are like a "ball-et". Very short in length.

One never knows what will shoot until you try it.

I am assuming your Rice barrel has deep round-bottom grooves, which may not like an "unpatched" projectile. I have a couple slow-twist barrels, but with shallow, square grooves, and they eat conicals very nicely.

Your barrel was made to shoot patched round balls, why would you want to experiment with anything else????

I have two .54s with 1 in 66 twist, one will shoot the ballets one will not. A good tight patched round ball will do all you need in most hunting. Two hundered years ago they did not know that the round ball would not kill deer sized game.

A .490 round ball will kill most any game animal East of the Mississippi.(except maybe a 300lb+ Black bear) and I would'nt trust a .50 cal. conical for it either. Plus a conical has increased recoil and costs more, both to buy and cast. Just :2 . I also don't think it will group any good anyway with a .16 round bottom groove with a 1:66 twist rifle. Stay with the roundball and you'll be happy.
