Newb here.

I've got an issue with a TC Renegade 50 cal. I traded for it at a gun show so I don't know the round count. It's shooting consistently about 12 inches high. It is grouping well and doesn't look like a shotgun blast. I was shooting sabot and balls, 70 grains Hogdon Pyrodex RS, with the same outcome. The balls were about two inches lower. The rear sight is bottomed out. The front sight is a shorty that appears to be stock. After perusing the inter-webs, I've decided to change out to a taller front sight. Does anyone have preference to tall front sights? Lemme see some links.

Thanks

Sabot and balls? It was designed for 50 balls (OR) conicals , shoot bore sized projectile nothing sabot sized ! A 1-48 will do both with the sight you have , by the way all mine do it with 80 to90 grains of OE 3F powder (no subs) in any of my Renegades 50 or 54 cal sand not to confuse you but I use a 54 cal Dura felt wad under ( either) over the powder . Works every time !!! /Ed

Go to midwayusa.com and you will find a huge selection of front sights. They will have different makes, mounts, heights and styles. With my aging eyes I went with a fiber optic and tang mounted peep sight and couldn't be happier.

maybe your bead was broken off. my rene front sight is 300/1000 above barrel at the rear. its installed so cant get a good measurement of overall height [with dovetail] because of the taper. if you dont have 300 its too short.

If the front sight looks low, it may have been changed out. Can you take a picture and post it here?

I suppose it could have been replaced. I've got two other muzzle-loaders, both flintlocks. They appear to be taller. I think they are called Partridge type sights. I may have the name wrong.

There were at least 2 different stock sights used on the Renegades. The replacement you need if you want to try to approximate stock will be determined by the rear sight. One had a rather thick front blade and the rear sight blade was blocky with a matching squared notch. The one that used a bead style had arching radiuses on it that met in a finer round notch that matched the bead nicely. The two sights are different enough mix matching them doesn't work so well.
