I'm planning to do some casting of REAL .45s soon. I was planning to put some kind of wad between the powder and the bullet & I have a bunch of .50 felt wads. Would these still help to seal and protect the base? Or would they just fold & create gaps?

I usually bump up a diameter size as a SOP to make sure of a good seal. I use .50” diameter 1/8” thick hard felt wads in multiple 45 caliber barrels shooting paperpatched bullets. Try them, if they don’t work, nothing lost.

Go to "Idaho Lewis" on You Tube he has a video on how he loads his muzzleloader. he uses a 58-caliber felt wool wad in his 54-caliber rifle. He shows how to work the felt wad, so it goes down the barrel and makes a good seal. 50 caliber wad for 45 caliber, 54 for 50 and so on. Like SDSmlf says, if it doesn't work, nothing lost!
