50th Anniversary of WATERLOO w/Rod Steiger

Wow, it has been almost half a century since I first went to see this in a then brand new/modern cinema! Took a date over 24 miles to impress her by going that then HUGE distance to the new cinema. Figured we would decide what to see when we got there. Had I been SMART, I would have picked a romantic movie, but then I saw Waterloo advertised....... Well, so much for that. Sigh. Girl remained a good friend, though. GRIN.

Anyway for those who have not seen it, 50 years later it still is the best movie on the battle I have ever seen. See if you agree?

Funnily enough, I was watching a clip from this yesterday to listen to the French march "la Victoire est a nous" (Victory is ours) and I was reminded of one of my pet hates - the stars are patently not riding. I can see it would be too risky putting an expensive actor on a real horse but the faking was terrible!

I remember the Remington rolling blocks with fake flintlocks stuck on the side. Steiger was horrible as Napoleon.
Plummer was acceptable as Wellington.
