Both front and rear sight are incorrect for the Renegade. The T/C Renegade utilized open "Partridge" type sights.

You could make those work, but you will be better off going on the evilBay and finding the correct Renegade sights. Front and rear.

i think he's spot on. FleaBay might be one place to look ... the other gun auction sites might be a good place to look, too
best of luck!

That's a Lyman rear sight like came with the Great Plains Rifle & used a metric dovetail on the barrel to mount instead of the U.S. standard 3/8ths dovetail.
What is the actual size of the metric dovetail? Wondering if close to 1/2” have an unmentionable that has a rear sight cut to nearly 1”

They're usually listed as .360in in catalogs.

I took my renegade .54 cal rear sight off and mounted a Williams FP tang sight on the rifle. When I put the original sight back together for storage, I tried to set the sight to it's lowest setting but something was preventing the sight from going all the way down. I discovered the spring wasn't sitting in the recess on the sight base. After adjusting the spring, I pushed the sight down on its base and screwed in the elevation screw all the way. check to see if that spring is sitting properly in that recess on your sight base.

I bought a renegade 38xxx serial number and the rear sight was incomplete/ missing parts. I found a matching sight on line and replaced it. All sight adjustments work but I don't know if they were the correct sights to begin with as they don't look like ones in pics I have seen. My problem the rear sight is adjusted all the way down and I am still high at 100 yds by about a foot. Sights look like I see on a lyman hawken. I shooting a .533 ball with a patch and 90 grains of RS. Any suggestion from Renegade owners
I can’t tell from your HD fuzzy photograph, but by chance does your sight have a lock or catch in the circled area I circled in your photo that normally keeps one from adjusting the rear sight too high? And is it possible you have the movable part of the sight somehow above that catch keeping it from moving down? The second photograph shows the detail I am referring to, although it is a different TC sight, your sight may have something similar.

The Hawken sight doesn't have those ears on it. The top part of the sight is square cornered at the pivot pin to keep it from coming up far enough to lose the spring if for some reason the elevation screw comes out.

I don’t know about the particular sight that the OP referenced, as I can’t be sure from their photograph, so I’ll take your word for it. I have seen that sight base, but I am not sure if I have one and I’m not going to take the time to look right now. Guessing if I found one, it would be as you say, no ears. However, I have a TC Hawken kit purchased new in 1980 that has the sight with the ears on it, just as in the photograph I posted. I have other TC Hawken sights with and without the ears, I just don’t know the dates of manufacture or if all are original to the barrels they are mounted on. Things have evolved over the years.

Still doesn’t address why the OP can’t lower their rear sight. Something just isn’t right.

I have been swapping these TC sights out for over 40 years and only issue was hole spacing. Could you post a photograph that shows what you discovered?
My hole spacing is from outside to outside approximately 0.8910 inches. So far if found two sights that are for a renegade and both bases didn't match up. Firearm came with the wrong sights, I bought it used for $300, it's in good shape, just need rear and possible front sight. Previous owner had hawken sights that were missing parts and hole spacing didn't line up. Any help would be appreciated

What is the center to center dimension between the two mounting holes on the sight you have? From memory believe most if not all the ones I have are spaced about .83” and use 6-48 screws. How did you come up with the .891” dimension? Did you measure from screw to screw? Or hole to hole? Figure a 6-48 screw is about .14” od, and a tap drill for it around .116” diameter (don’t have my tap drill chart in front of me). A photograph of what you are doing would likely simplify things and get you help much quicker. Folks like @bubba.50 knows these TC and components inside and out.

The .83ish is what I’m most familiar with too. But there was at least one other Renegade sight. If you look up the ‘Pre-Renegade’ that BigSkyRambler recently sold you can see what it looks like. I’ve only had one gun with that sight & never had it off to know what the spacing was.

Without having it in hand one can only speculate but, I'm beginning to suspect boogered up screw holes.

One thought I had was that there was a raised screw head (wrong or loose screw) under the sight keeping it from going any lower. No mention by OP of an issue with the screw holes so for now off the potential list of causes. Whatever it is, likely something simple but hidden. These sights only have one moving part in the vertical direction. A couple of clear photographs from the OP would likely lead to identifying the problem cause and a solution. Otherwise it’s just speculation.

Looked up the big sky and it does resemble mine. Inside measure .7520. Here are some pics. Can't down load pics from my phone
