My .54 shoots a 2" group point of aim at 25 yards with 75 grains of FFFG. But then it opens up dramatically to about 14 inches at 125 yards. Can a group at 25 yards be tight and then open up like that at 125 yards due to the gun or the load? Gotta be me, right?

Trying to group at 25 yards is pointless. 50 yards is a more significant test. Going from 25 to 100 yards tells you nothing. Work up an accuracy load at 50 yards before trying anything else.

I would start at 40-50 yards first, then increase the distance to the target. It's all going to depend on a number of factors but try and get the tighest group you can at the same distance before changing anything, including adjusting or filing your sights, then try a tighter patch, different lube or larger ball (.530 to .535)
