I was taught the "crack" wasn't for accuracy... it was for performance. The load wasn't right for deer until the crack was heard, and it was the minimum for bear that way too.

I wasn't going to reply again. Oftentimes I don't note who made a post. You are one of the most active and experienced shooters here. The comment I made was more suitable for a beginner. Why you originally asked your question is a bit of a puzzlement to me. I didn't mean to touch a nerve.
Back to subject:
You differentiate between "accuracy" and "performance". OK, you know what you mean. I believe accuracy is but one measure of performance. As to increase velocity leading to better accuracy, that is often true. Without sufficient pressure accuracy will be lousy. Many believe the higher the pressure, and velocity, the better the accuracy. Look at the top bench rest shooters. Many, if not nearly all, use huge charges compared to what an offhand shooter will use in an equal caliber rifle. They do it to achieve consistency in performance. Yes, other factors come into that equation. Such as better wind bucking, etc. You need sufficient pressure to get top accuracy. Back to basics. Keep shooting and testing.

A little earlier than that. It was well established when I got into the game in 1973.

My 54 has a 28" barrel my most acurate load is 80 grns FFg Goex ,blue strip pillow tick from wal-mart, mink-oil lube,.530 rb,kills deer dead. drop down to 75 grns accuracy goes to pot and going up to 85 grns is not as good either. Never have tried FFFg, save it for my 32 cal .
