Built this gun in 01, it was my second build. I killed several deer with it, but just never really liked the thing. So I decided that I would redo it. Cut the stock down, and re-made all the furniture. It originally had an L&R percussion lock but I wanted a flint. Didn’t have enough wood in front for another lock, so I just turned the one I had into flint. Built the bridle, pan and flash guard. Much work, but she throws a good of spark. Not the prettiest thing, and never mind my attempt at engraving as that was left over from 01.Gives it character?

I grayed the metal with hot bleach and hand rubbed linseed oil on the wood.

Not to PC I guess, I rekon it would be called a plains rifle, but it has a few things on it from hawken. Don’t really matter to me, long as it makes meat .

it looks like an OTT gun to me , Very P.C. for that style, Meat on the table I am sure was in my opinion the only thing the average joe care about. nice looking hunting stick, thanks for the pics.

OTT--I admire your skills...Nice work!..any chance of a before picture?

Thanks for the good words. Here is a before pic of the rifle after I first built it.It's the top one in the first pic. The other gun was my first. Now this gun has me wanting to convert it to flint also. :hmm:

A very satisfying rifle. It is more period correct than you think. Many oldtimers modified their guns to fit themselves. What you have is one very nice gun with your personal touches added.

Very nice gun thanks for the photos. Looks like the tree grew a bit over the years. Larry wV

Good job on the conversion as near as I can tell. Looks nice - beautiful stock.

If that's you in the picture, you don't look nuthin' like my cousin. Ever go to the Pomme de Terre or Osage Beach rendezvous? It's been a few years since I have been to Pomme, but I'd like to get back there again. Haven't made it to Osage yet.

Thanks again all.

Otter, I got cuzzins here and there, we be a bit different looking, but I rekon you shake any ones family tree, a nut or two will fall out? I go to Pomme bout every year, never camp, just go_Only 15 miles away from me.

Shot this gun tonight.Really impressed as to how well it shoots. Seventh shot went clack....fizz. Not sure what happened there. I reprimed it and boom she went. The rest of the time she went off clean.

Seemed to group well with it,considering It's the first flint gun I ever shot. Didn't think I was suppose to be able to do that? :idunno: Last 3 shots were touchin from 30 yards. Very happy. :hatsoff:

I said you didn't look like my cousin because my cousin and you share the same name and you and I (along with a bunch of other folks) share the same last name. BTW - I've been called a "nut" on more than one occassion. Maybe we will meet at Pomme some day . . .

Looks like you got yourself a rock lock shooter, now. Perhaps your accuracy comes from the fact that you've already been shooting that piece and the lock switch didn't upset things too much. I's say you put yourself farther along the flinter curve with the swap.

Nice work. :hatsoff:
