Well I finally got to test out the bullets I made with the .54 Great Plains Mold from Lyman. Using 80 grns. 2F, Goex I have to say showed promise. Ill need to tinker a bit but I was getting 1.5"-2" groups at 50 yrds. I know it will do better but I was in a rush. I had an over sized (.62) bore butter felt wad under the bullet.

You might want to up the powder charge and see if that improves the groups. It does in my TC Hawken rifles.

Thanks. I'm running low on 2F but have a lot of 3F. I'm going to see how it shoots at 80grns.

Haven't shot any game with it, but have dinked quite a bit. I think you (and Rat Trapper) are on the right track with a bump in charge. And in my guns anyway, switching to 3f was a very good thing. Maybe it was better "upset" or maybe it's just fate, but half a dozen 54s have all shot better with 3f than 2f. It's a little thumpy in a light rifle, but my standard load these days is 80 grains of 3f under the GP. With the lubed wad, of course.

About to head back to the range. Last year I was in Fog and the dark front sight against a dark buffalo hide was a bit difficult. Just switched out the front sight for something a bit brighter. Changed the rear sight to an aperture with brass ring again for visibility. I have a V sight in the back. Eyes are getting worse with age. :idunno:

Just got back from the gun shop and they actually had 2F Goex in stock. Bought two. Geeze prices have gone up. I'm going to still try the 3F since I got more of that than 2F.
