Hello Everyone;
Last week I purchased a Early CVA .58 Cal. Mountain Rifle. I also purchased several boxes of Hornady .570 and Speer .570 Round Balls.
They seem to be fairly tight without a patch. (I have not had time to Fire this Rifle Yet.)
My question is: Do any of you have this rifle and if so have you had any luck with this size of Ball?
Thanks,
Don

Hi I had a CVA hawken in 58 the book I got with it said to use 565 balls in it I couldn't get a 570 down with a patch on it just to tight. I sold that barrel because it wouldn't shoot if you left the load in it for any linth of time shot fine if you loaded and shot it but go hunting and their was no telling where it was going to hit. just sold it and got a 50 cal barrel and it shot great till the main spring went bad and wouldn't go off when you pulled the triger. Tom

The Speer .570 seem to be a bit smaller.
TOW has Hornady .562 Round Balls. Has anyone tried these?
Thanks,

A friend of mine has one of these that he has had since the '70s. He always used a .562 with a .018 ticking patch.

I use a .562 with a thick patch on my GM .58 barrel. They work fine.

I have an old CVA Big Bore Mt Rifle in .58 and have killed 30 or 40 deer with it, I load mine with .570 for the first shot (when hunting) and fill the loading block with .565's, this makes it easier to load dirty. I have never had any trouble with accuracy My load for hunting is 90 gr.ffg Goex and .017 drill. I rebarreled it a couple of years ago with a GM .58 but I still have the old barrel.

I built on back in the 70's & still have it. I shoot 75 grains of FF Goex in it, .015 Oxjoke patch, Lehigh Lube of my patch grease, it will cloverleaf 3 shots touching at 50 yards off the bench. It is Devastating on a deer at 75 yards................ I bought a .575 mold to try some someday, but it shoots so well with the .570 I never did cast any.

:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Pork Chap I used it as a trade in on a T/C big bore as I got more for trade then I payed for it.Tom
