FYI...T/C's ballistic chart in their owner's manual lists a range of 80-120grns Goex 2F or Pyrodex RS (2F) for the .570/279grn patched ball.

My .58cal deer hunting load is:

100grns Goex 2F
Oxyoke wonderwad
.018" TC prelubed pillow ticking
Hornady (or Speer) .570 ball

Hunting in reasonably thick North Carolina woods, I zero at 50yds and know that it drops 3" at 100yds...shot two bucks with it last fall, both close at 50yds, blew through both of them like butter...IMO, the .58cal round ball is really overkill for Eastern woods distance whitetails...considering the .45/.50/.54 calibers do the job very effectively.

I think the .58's real potential is for larger game, and/or game at longer average distances like 100-125yds...maybe in more open woods / fields, etc.

I have the .58 cal. Renegade. Mine likes either:

.570" roundball
.018" (approx.) pillow ticking patch
90 grains 2Fg Goex

or

.570" roundball
.018" (approx.) pillow ticking patch
75 grains 3Fg Goex.

I tried the 3Fg load the last time I was at the range when I ran out of 2Fg and it actually seemed to group a little better, but so far it's a one time thing. I don't know how the load will do the next time out.
