.58 RB drop...

Folks,

A friend shoots light loads (50gr 3F) for his .58 flinter, 36" bbl apx. Am trying to convince him of the incredible drop at 100 yds he gets, he's used to shooting targets up to 50 yds or so. When I scope his paper I can actually see the RB going out to 100yds and well under the target (maybe a foot?). Does anyone have a table or calculation for drop that I can actually show him? Nothing I can find on the Net. I think BC is .066 for a .570 RB at 279 grains. Velocity? Slowww..... maybe 1200fps? Thanks!

This is really cool! Doubt if he is at 1200 fps with such a light load though. Thats OK, plug in whatever value you want and it will do the work for you! :thumbsup:

Most people shoot loads that are way too heavy. I think 60-70 grains of 3f is plenty for a .58.

I'd bet the drop figures would be a lot like the .22 long rifle standard velocity trajectory. If so, sightin' in at 75 yards ought to keep it on the paper at 100. :winking:

I checked the old Lyman manual last night and couldn't find an exact reference in their balistics charts.

FWIW, I use a pretty moderate 100grn Goex 2F charge in my .58 for deer hunting, and with a 50yd zero, it drops about 3" at 100yds.
