I used a rear sight simular to the EP0609 Rear Sight at a cost of about or less than $9.95. My sight has a serpent that goes forward toward the muzzle. The EP0609 sight has a feather rather than a serpent, and both are a high quality, wax cast steel rear sight that requires no finishing before being browned or blued. I couldn't get a photo of it for here. I drilled a hole into the sight just in front of, and close to, the sight plate, so that it was large enough for my tang screw to fit through. I could put it on or take it off. The sight plate extends high enough to use as a sight. Depending on whether I needed it or not for shooting matches or hunting with round ball. When put on, the serpent or feather points toward the butt plate. Sight in your shots buy moving the serpent/feather opposite the windage direction you want the shot to hit. This moves the sighting plate in the direction you want to move the ball hit. Once you have the windage where you want it, use a small pointed awl to tap, scratch or engrave a mark so that when you take it off and want to replace it, you put the sight on, place the serpent nose tip or feather tip on the marked position and you're ready to shoot and are sighted in.

I forgot to add: Yes a .62 caliber can hit consitantly what shot at, at most any reasonable distance. With my .69 caliber Tulle I could hit an 8X11 sheet of printing paper at 150 yards 9 to 10 out 10 shoots. (Load- 90g FFg Goex BP; .015 patch around .675 RB) Now, this was after a lot of shooting to learn that weapon and trial and error with my hunting loads. With my Brown Bess 75 caliber I could hit 8 of 10 clay birds on the backstop at +100 yards. Same learning curve. (Load- 90g FFg Goex BP; .015 Patch around .735 RB) Also with either weapon and my rifles I can hit the chest area of human silouette a little better than 80%. Anyone can duplicate it and better, and with any caliber you have. It's like anything, you need to practice, document info, practice, etc, etc, etc.... Our reenactment group had shooting ability qualifications for specific job requirements for assignments for work hired out through the Ohio Trade Company in the mid 1750-60's. These documented requirements were found through our contacts with the Green County Historical Society in Waynesburg, PA. They have many documents, logs and other written info our group has been privy to viewing and being allowed to copy as we portray the Rangers, trappers, hunters, teamsters, surveyors and laborers, etc that garnered work assignments through their contact and ties with the Ohio Trade Company in that time period.
If you have any type reenacting group, you should have a committee of members who enjoy the job of historical info and documentation searches.

A few years ago I killed a button buck at 75 yds with my 62 fowler - before I sold it I even placed in rifle matches - out to 50 yds I had utmost confidence in the ability of me and the gun to take deer sized game :hatsoff:

Thanks...and by design no frills, told Matt Avance to just get the prettiest plank he could find...built both that .62/20ga and a .54/28ga from the same plank. Sunlight really lights them up
