Thank you fellers. RiverRat, It's an Issac Haines I built from Jim Chambers. I ordered it as a .54 rifled barrel and got to thinking about haveing a smooth barrel too so I ordered a .62 smooth barrel also. Both barrels are from Rice and are the same swamped profile. Of course when I built the rifle I could work the wood and barrel together. Being the novice that I am, it took me quite a while to get the .62 to fit the finished stock like the .54 I built it with. Really only had to work on the tang, touch hole and underlugs but it was the first time I'd ever barreled a finished stock. It was fun though.

WVrocklock,
The fact that it was built as a .54 rifled explains the wooden patchbox lid. It is not so hard to fit a second barrel to one stock. I have had three barrels for one stock for a while. What is really hard is to set up one barrel to be switched between two stocks. I tried this because I wanted to switch barrels from flintlock to wheellock. I gave it up for a bad cause. I decided which barrel should be on which stock and left them that way.

Nice looking gun, I like the patchbox on a smoothrifle, looks like a fairly early gun, I think you will like that .62 barrel. My Virginia smoothrifle in that bore shoots very well.

Thanks for the kind replys fellers. volatpluvia, I can only imagine trying flintlock to wheellock with the same barrel. I put the .54 barrel back in to get in some practice with it for deer season today. With a half charge of 45 grns. of 3F it shoots good enough for head shots on squirrels. I had a grey in a tree and just couldn't get a clear head shot so I tried my hand at barking it. Diddn't work as planned, I got just enough of the limb he was on to bounce that old roung ball right up through his belly and out his back. I was surprized that it ruined no more meat than it did.

Rocklock,
Beautiful! Outstanding job on the stockIMO

Rocklock , My flinter is very similar to yours , same grain, a little lighter brown than yours. I made the patchbox lid almost identical to yours. It's a Getz 50. w/ round bottom rifling, great shooter, better than my old eyes can do. It looks like you got a good mess of pot pie going there, I can almost smell it simmering from here! :applause: Keep up the good shooting and good luck with whitetail this season!!

Thanks again guys. Cooner and Bubba, Here's another pic of the flip side. It's not a very good one, but here goes.
