I bought one of the sniper sights for the Zouave and had a chance to test it out last Monday. It doesn't get your front sight any higher as the horizontal part of the crosshair is just about the same height as the stock sight. I did file the rear notch all the way down to the pivot and got my rifle to print on target by bringing the horizontal crosshair down to the bottom of the notch but my Zouave was hitting a foot high at fifty yards. If interested, I can try to get a picture of the sight line. YMMV

Mostly at Ortonville R.A. but I also use Bald mt. and once in a while, I'll head up to Williams gunsight when I want to include a little window shopping with shooting.

My Navy Arms musketoon prints about 3 inches high at 50 yards w/ minies and about 6 inches high with PRB. It also prints about 3 1/2 inches left at 50 yds. I'm going to live with it and use Kentucky Windage this season, but plan on filing the blade off the post, filing a notch to correct windage, and install another blade. I dont have a lot of problem with it hitting high, I fugre its about on at 100 yards, but the left has to be corrected.

I'm taking it hunting tommorrow....."hold right and low, hold right and low, hold right and low..."

I hope it works for you, I just hate having to aim one place in order to hit another. :haha:

It might have worked but the durned south wind carried my scent to a couple nice does. I was drawing a bead on one when she caught a whiff of me and left there like manure though a goose.

What do u shoot thru your Zouave? You use minie, round ball, ffg or fffg, and charge? I just got mine in august, am still working on a load. Right now I'm using 60 grs FFFG behind a PRB. At 50 yards it shoots a 3 inch 5 shot group. Its a work in progress. Mine has a 1-48 twist.

Rotten luck. But that's why they call it hunting.

I haven't worked up a 'best' load. Right now I'm shooting a .570 prb with dry lubed 0.018 pillow ticking over 60 gr ffg Goex. I don't know how well this load works because frankly I'm still dealing with how to shoot this gun (stance, hold, etc.) I'm going to have to alter my stance from the one I use with my GPR because the balance is very different and I can't hold it steady enough. I need to work on the trigger, also. Lots to do here...

I'm in the same boat with my Zouave. I'm still trying to figure out a best load. I'm using .562 PRB with a heavier .022 ticking and 50 gr of FFg. I'm also trying to use the same ball with my Musketoon but it seems to like a little thinner patch (.018). I ended up drilling and tapping a set screw into the tumbler so I could adjust the trigger pull. No more creep. I've got it down to where it is just about the same as my Enfield musketoon. I haven't even got to the point where I can shoot it offhand. I'm still on the bench. With the front sniper sight and the rear sight filed all the way down, I'm hitting five" high and 1" right as of the last time out. Until I get a set of mold handles for my .562 mold, I'm done for now, out of ammo.

I took my Euroarms Zouave out the other day and used a .562 pillow ticking patched round ball and wonder lube over 90g of Pyrodex. (ran out of Goex and the closest place to get Goex is 90 miles round trip) Shot about 12-14" high at 50 yards.
80 gr. shot 8-9" high. I think I'm going to file off the front sight blade and solder on a new blade to the original base.
My theory with muskets:
You want it to hit near the mark with the heaviest load you use for hunting. So you need a tall front sight to get you there.
For target shooting with a reduced load, you can always give it a bit more front sight to bring the point of impact up if need be. With a heavy hunting load its hard to give it less front sight if its not there.
At least that makes sense to me.

Yep. I agree. How best to add that height is the question. Lots of good ideas so far.
