Good God ! What a wonderful looking rifle. I am in month three of my wait for my Tennessee rifle! Aaaaaah! I cant wait! :v

I have a Early Virginia rifle from TVM. It has been a joy from the first. My rifle is plain, a hunting rifle just what I wanted. TVM are the best people I have ever delt with.

I wanted to add that I just today had a chance to weigh this rifle on a good accurate digital scale and it weighed in at:
8.62 lbs.

Matt

I have come back and looked at your post a number of times. I am quite happy with my TVM Virginia, but it is really plain. Don't misunderstand me, it is a great gun, but I can't help lusting after one like yours.

You got one beautiful flintlock there! Hands down one of the most handsome I have ever seen.

TVM does unbelievable work!

Well, that worked out good. I guess when they finished yours they're ready to start mine, I just got an email from Toni saying they're starting.
I'll second your comments about Toni being accomodating about changes, as I've changed mine right up til the start, to get it just the way I want it, and she's been wonderful. GRRRRREAT people to deal with and I can't wait.
Good luck with yours, it sure is a beauty.

You're correct. Toni seems able to put up with aggravating customers that would make a preacher cuss. She has even put up with my "wishy washy inability to make up my mind" calls. that's the mark of good people.

Very cool. I hope you hug it every day

Just made up a new batch of mink oil lubed drill cloth patches and will be hugging it up in NY for their deer opener this weekend!
Hopefully the next post will be it laying across a fat whitetail buck.

Matt,

Good Luck hunting in NY. I'll be in my stand at 5:30AM You rifle is awesome good luck with her. I'm in the research stage now for a Virginia Rifle. I think TVM will be my builder.

You will not go wrong with TVM. Great people to deal with. My Earley Virginia was built for hunting plain stright maple half round barrel. Shoots great took deer 7 & 8 with it this year. My rifle may be totaly PC but it is  great for what I wanted.

rr11,

this is what I've decided so far:

TVM Early Virginia:

Super Premium Curly Maple
Brass Furniture
R.E. Davis Large Double Set Trigger
Rice C weight swamped 42in 1 in 66 or 70 twist
Chambers Deluxe Siler Lock
Iron Sights
TVM Aged Iron look on lock and Barrel.

This is going to be a hunting rifle. Anything I'm missing. Suggestions?

Took her on the maiden voyage to NY this past weekend and I'm sure it shot straight.....ME on the other hand, NOT so straight.

I had a challenging 70ish yard offhand shot through a tight shooting lane at a nice buck and I wiffed one and skimmed the side of a tree.
Saw lots of deer and had plenty of does and small bucks under the gun,(some as close as 3 yards) but when it came time to make it happen on a shooter buck, I wasn't up to the task. :shake:

Oh well, maybe next time! Gun went off like a rocket and it felt great carrying it around. I DID manage to draw "blood" on the gun though with some first hunt scratches and dents in that pretty finish. It's pretty but it's a hunting rifle so I wasn't too upset. Just starting to give her a little character!
Next up is PA's rifle deer season, then maybe back to NY and finally PA's late flintlock season.

Better luck next time Matt! Thanks for posting your experience with TVM and pictures of your Early Lancaster. It caused me to finally order my Early Virginia. I spoke with Toni last week and placed the order. She is a wonderfully calm person to work with.

This is what I ordered:

Early Virginia
Super Premium Maple asked for Darker Brown Tones
R.E. Davis large double set trigger
Rice C weight .54cal
Brass Furniture
German Silver Hunter Star above cheek area
German Silver wrist Oval

This will be a hunting rifle!

It is my birthday in June so hoping she arrives as my present. Based on the look of yours I know I will be happy.

I had been researching for awhile read John Dillin's The Kentucky Long Rifle several times. Your post was the final push I needed.

Have a great holiday season!
