I am glad I read this thread. I will have a flint rifle next week and never thought about not using a brush, or what would happen if the rod broke. Thanks guys.

The worm is definitely my most used cleaning item. Can't find Flax tow around here so I Cut footlong sections of jute twine and unravel and ball up. Really gets the gunk out. Makes good wadding fer my smoothie too, with a touch of mink oil.

What kind of velocity on the ramrod am I looking at here?

My own experience suggest enough to ;bounce off the concrete floor and penetrate two sheets of dry wall leaning against the garage wall :shocked2:

No brushes and also get yourself a range rod for loading at the range and your cleaning needs.

jag and lubed proper wiping patch thickness is all that's needed. if ya need a brush then ya haven't been properly wiping 'tween shots and ya baked on the crud. though i haven't needed it, i do keep a patch worm on hand (not ball worm - i'll never use one of those dang things ever again).

All right everyone, a couple grains of FFFFg in the touchhole, a small fizz sound, and the rod came out about two inches, enough for me to grab it. Thank you for the help.
