I don't mind the smell of Ballistol at all but when want that clean gun smell, I prefer to whif Hoppes #9. Sort of like Old Spice, it brings back fond memories of cleaning guns in the basement with my grandfather.

I've found its smell unique, but not off-putting. It's grown on me. Just as Hoppes is the smell of cleaning other weapons, Ballistol is the second smell I associate with my muzzleloaders (2nd to the smell of burned powder).
Way to stir the pot young man! Keep it going.

It has a pleasant smell, I have 2 cats that get / sneak into everything and it won't hurt them.

Lodgewood Mfg's Dave Stavlo states on their website that Ballistol is the only gun lubricant they use at the shop.

Additionally here in Canada it's readily available and cheaper than the G96 and Hoppes.

Not good, like vomit, but I use it all the time. A bit overpowering in a confined space.

I love using Ballistol and use it on most everything, but if I get a concentrated whiff I find it disgusting.
