The long knife I started some time ago and just got around to finishing it up. The 9 inch blade is forged from 3/16 inch 1095. Handle is whitetail crown. The belt frog is also forged from 1095. Overall length is 14 1/4 inches.

The utility knife has a 4 1/4 inch blade and forged from 1/8 inch 1095. The ferrule is a section of a 20 gauge fowler barrel, handle is also crown whitetail antler. Overall length is 8 1/4 inches. Sheath is distressed leather with period beads.

Theres somethin wrong with the longest one Joe, not sure what it is. Please box it up and send it to so I give it a closer look.

Nice knives.

I like the both of them! Real nice proportions and like the looks of the blade. Is that a copper band on the smaller knife?

50cal, that band is a section of a 20 gauge fowler barrel.

Thanks for looking fella's, all your comments are very appreciated.

Super knives Joe. The blade and handle finish are very awesome. The sheathes complement the knives perfectly.

How wide is the blade on the long knife?

Thank you,
Bill k

When you ask for a critique of your work as I do from time to time you never know what will be said and you could be just setting your self up for a kick in the gut, BUT you won't get one from me. Your knives' are very well done and as far as I can tell anyone would be proud to wear. Its good that you ask for criticism because although it can hurt some times, its a good way to learn and improve your skills. Not sure if this is what your going for but it screams Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery to me. I like them, I wouldn't change a thing.

Awesome! Especially the smaller one. I think the idea of the barrel for a bolster is pretty clever!

Gentlemen, I appreciate you looking and taking the time to post all your fine comments. I'll try to answer your questions.

BillK:
The widest part of the long knife measures 1 5/16 inches just in front of the choil.

Colonial Hunter:
I do look for criticism. It would be easy to let your imagination and creativity run wild creating something that might mislead a newcomer or others to believe what you have done is factual. There are many true students of historical accuracy on this forum. I look for acceptance or disapproval from their knowledge. We need to police ourselves to preserve the historical aspect of our hobby.

JamesG:
The blades are forged from 1095 high carbon steel. I get all of my high carbon steel from Admiral Steels.

Thanks again for all you comments and questions.

Joe . What are you saying with the above..
Are you by chance saying that an artist ,whether be a Knife maker, bag maker. Rifle maker or a sword smith. Should not create something with the appearence of days gone bye,for his own use or for someone elses.....
If you don't mind.
TB.

No, not at all TB. I simply meant to imply we should not overlook the historic lore. I digress if I offended any craftsman, I certainly did not intend to do so.

Joe

Yes I see now that there it could be read another way. Thanks for clearing that for me.
TB.
