Were heading of down there monday early am, after a few hoppity's, I will post a couple of pics if we are sucessful.
After a full day shooting we went past 7-8 roos about 500 yrds down the road, a couple about 4-5 foot tall, must be getting used to the noise!!!

Thanks for posting the nice photos :applause: !I have a question is the Enfield original and which model?

That looks like fun !!! I did a little research and found that Tasmania is a 26 hours plane ride from Baltimore. Wish I didn't live on the other side of the world.... wonder if drilling down would be easier than going around. :rotf:

Looks like down home ta me.I think the curtains are a little overkill :rotf: :rotf:
Shore look's like purty country.
Thanx fer sharin'

gorgeous gun..nice hut...noted your rain water goes in barrel..is it like sistern?

Great pictures slegemeister; It looks like the trees are all scorched around your camp. Did you build your camp after the fire or did it survive the fire?

That long rifle has the cleanest, brightest brass work I have ever seen. I had to wait for my eyes to readjust before I could type this message.

Is the owner a retired gentleman? :rotf: :rotf:

So many questions where to start.
rebellyell62: Yes the curtains are a little over kill, is what happens when your mates missus visits. But has a pot belly stove and is fully insulated, very warm on the coldest of nights and days.

Slake: The rain tank catches all the rain of the hut roof which isnt very large as you can see, but it will fill it self in two weeks, We regularly let half of it go and cycle the water, you cn drink it as it is but we boil it to be on safe side. In a little while we are plumbing for the inside and installing a inline filter so can drink straight from the tap. Not sure you mean by a cistern as we call cisterns the things you flush your toilet with. BTW not included in the picture is a shower bay on the left, has a proper shower bay floor all ya have to do is heat the water and hoist it up and go for it, on a cold day it freezes before hitting the floor! Backing on to the shower and wash up area is a dog run and the out side loo!!.

Soggy: The fire is a control burn, we do it to clear out the area of ferns and sags, the hut is fine, with the australian bush a fire is a natural part of it, besides it lessens the fuel if a bush fire comes through.

JeffinNZ: Yes Monty is retired both he and his wife, its there hut really I just borrow, as I helped him with it. The land is owned by a farmer who basically said you can use that part of the land tiil ya die. We kill a few roo and for that we can use his land for shooting and camping.
ANDDDD yes it is very shiny both of his are, I like mine to have a patina to it besides when hunting the flashy stuff catches the animals eyes to much.

thehorn: The camp is wired for 12v dc and 240v AC.
We both have a generator, I have a 1.8kw genny so can run most things, we joked about putting in a satellite tv hmmm I do have a spare satellite dish too, I will let you know what we decide.

I am glad you all enjoyed the pics when I go through some others I will show you the targets we have set up, you can see one of the poles we put in for BP, we also have a bench rest set up and another pole to shoot of for other set of targets, at the longest part we can shoot out to about 400-600 yards although mostly we shoot 80 yards or 25yrds.

sledgemeister,

Thanks for it
snake-eyes :hatsoff:

Great post Sledgemeister.
Strange, that forest looks just like the bush we have here in Tasmania....
Smokey. :rotf:

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed.

Hey smokey ya really think it looks like the bush in tassie?
Its not bad for a place that was logged a few years back, further sown the road its the thickest scrub you can imagine, good hiding place for hoppy critters for sure.
Long as they hop in my direction, I am a bit scared to shoot one with the 58 cal incase i cant find the pieces!!

Some more pics.
Just to give you an idea of before and after we set up targets, you will need to pick out trees on the second shots relative to the trees as I did not take the photos from the same place as the first ones, clever aint I....dont answer that!

First pick shows a view left of the hut where we have now set up a 25yrd station.

before:
lookingleftbeforefire.jpg

now: there is a pole concreted in directly in front of the steel targets. ply is placed over the front so as can place targets one them they are about 8" square. Unfortunately I did not get the pole and the bench rest to the left of the large tree in the pic, but they is there. Honest!!

Looking right before:
lookingrightbeforefire.jpg

Looking right after: again make out the tree groups for reference points, sorry. NB the bridge we put in for crossing the creek(yest there is one there)
viewfromthepole-lookingright.jpg

Wide view of the whole area well most of it, again I missed out the stations we have set up.
wideshot-.jpg

well hope that gives you an idea of our little piece of happiness. In the first photo looking left you can see a couple of life size animal cut outs, we scatter them on the other side of the hill for distance shots and use them in any walk throughs we set up. On the "right before" pic the hill in the distance is about 400 yds away we are going to put some clangers up there for fun, 4-600 yards with a muzzle loader should be fun, at least we will hear it "if" we can hit it.

Yup sure is and its about deer season time. The property owner doesnt want any one shooting deer on there at the moment though, he wants to breed them up a bit. There is a big stag up there though has been spotted a couple of times recently. Also a bloody big cat, not your average feral pussy, this guy is a thumper, stands about 16-20inches at the shoulder.

My apologies for the lack of pics I stuffed up on my photobucket site and deleted the ones I wanted to edit, I wont use select all feature next time, sorry for those that did not see them, But I am not spending another 2-3 hours editing and changing the size and uploading again! grrr
