I have been offered a Thompson Center Patriot by one of the fellas at my gun club. He wants $250 for it. The gun is immaculate, it was not fired much and looks almost new. The wood undamaged but is nothing special and is without a pritty grain pattern.
I was told by other shooters that the $250 asking price is a little high but I am inclined to think it is right in the ball park.
Sure would like some more opinions from you guys on it, Thanks.

I have two Thompson Center Patriot pistols. You can't get any finer unless you go for something closer to a custom build in my opinion.
I have seen Patriots go for as much as $600.00. I paid $250.00 for both of mine. One was new and unfired. The second was only slightly used and still in pristine condition.
Take the barrel out and inspect the stock. The one weakness the Patriots had is they would crack in the area of the lock bolt and wrist. They are much more fine than the cheaper immitation Traditions pistol. Thompson is American made and they have an ironclad warranty.
What caliber is the pistol ? The price asked for that pistol is a very fair... good price.

At 250, I for one, would be all over it!
If it were the .32 config, I would go higher!

buy it, you wont loose any money on it.

Excellent price, good deal. Few sell under $300-350 on Gun Broker.

You can always resell it for a profit. Doubt it's historically accurate, but it's a great quality muzzleloader.

I agree with the others. They typically go for over $300 on the on-line auctions. T/C is a good product and its hard to go wrong with them.

If you get it, the set triggers are bass awkwards from normal set triggers.
The front trigger sets the triggers and the rear trigger is used to actually fire the gun.

Have fun!

The early Patriots didn't have the brass nose cap, the ramrod is ebony. Many with broken stocks may have been the results from over charging, I think 27 gr. was the recommended amount. Excellent target pistol, maybe? a point blank follow-up for down deer.

'I' would jump on it like a duck on a junebug

Thanks guys, the patriot is a .45 and has the brass nose cap.
I am going to buy it, today as a matter of fact. All I have to do is convince my wife that this will make a great Birthady present for me and then let her put it away for 107 days. Just might work. Ya never know, women are tough to figure.

You'd be :shake: to NOT get it , I got one unfired and put it on here last year and closed the bidding at 500 the 2nd day (it had run up to 675 by that time but I just couldn't see makeing anymore on it than I have, I always try to put my own cut out mark on things I sell on here but some people get nuts you got ( I HOPE BY NOW) one of those guns. Fred :hatsoff:

BUY it! Thats a fantastic price on a grest gun!
you Never see em for under $300...usually $500-$600! I have never heard anyone complain about the pistol either!!

Go to the banks get $250 in cash. Tell them you want it all in $20.00 bills, except for the $10.00 to make the fifty.
Pull $200.00 out and put it in your pocket, put the other $50.00 back in your wallet.
Tell him you would sure like to have that pistol, reach in your pocket and slowly count out the $200.00 in $20.00 dollar bills and as you lay it out in front of him fan the bills, tell him but that's about all you can afford right now! :(
Chances are you'll get it for the $200.00. There is something about green bills laying in front of a man that will make him take less than he really wanted. :shocked2:
If nothing else you can always tell him what the heck Timmy didn't really need to have his braces readjusted this month at the dentist and give him the full $250.00! :haha: :haha:

.50 cal, You sir are the consumate horse trader  , I know for a fact I woud come out on the short end of the stick iffen I were trading with you.

Well I figure it's worth the $250.00 from what you all said but, also figure why pay more than you have to. Green is greeds favorite color you know! :rotf: :rotf:

I got lucky and bought a Patriot for $250 a few years ago. It's a very good gun and $250 is quite a deal. I've seen them in the $450-500 range many times since. Grab it and you'll always be glad you did.

I owned a .36 for paper shooting. I had a .45 for other shoots gongs Etc. Both were good little guns. They did not hold up real well if used with heavy loads. The stock will split with even medium loads. The lock parts tend to fail, springs, flys Etc.

The good things was that even after all these years TC had parts and screws no stocks. They shipped free of charge and these were old guns.

I gave up on modern guns{Perc.Caps} some years ago. I shoot only flint guns with mostly Siler locks. I sold the pair to a modern shooter and he loves them. :)

There are folks now that collect TC arms. They don't buy them to shoot. They have pushed the price up on these pistols. I see them from $225.00
to $500.00 for guns with original Ctns. and paper work. Most guys won't pay over $250.00 for a shooter as they will have to tune it up which will take away the collectors value. :hmm:

The Patriots are great shooters. It doesn't take much to feed them either. I get by with 20-24 grains of powder. I think that is what Thompson Center recommends for loads. It's about like shooting a .38 spl.
If you do have a problem with the pistol call or email Thompson. Just tell them you have a pistol and what the problem is. They will tell you to send it in. It gets fixed and sent right to your door. It will only cost you shipping to them.
I forget where and who, but there are replacement stocks for the Patriots out there, just not from Thompson because their factory burned down several years ago and they lost everything for the Patriot pistols.
Just remember to keep the powder charge low, 20-24 grains ought to do it for you. They may not be period correct, but they can be tack drivers. Who cares anyway? Have fun!

I bought one years back at a stock sale for 80.00 and saw another for 150.00. They did not know what they had. 250.00 in good condition is a steal nowadays. I sold mine later but they are fine pistols.
