I just left my range so ran over to my friend's house. He'd seen a picture when it was hanging the other night when we were shooting. He said he couldn't believe how nice it came out. That he tried one before (what he called a rope burn using string) and he didn't like it. Coming from him, in person, as well as the comments here really made me realize how lucky I was. He's a perfectionist and has been messing around with guns for a long time. Things I was viewing as imperfections where the wire burned he said you want that. So I guess not coming out perfect in my eyes worked in my favor.

But the whole time I was wondering if Pedersoli sold just the stocks...

Here are some of the ML's he's built. He makes his own stocks. I took some pics of them before I started so I could have curly maple embedded in my brain when I was wrapping, lol.

I found very soft rolls of aluminum wire on Amazon that worked out great. I was able to start the wrap on the end and rolled all the way to the butt. I will post results in a few but this was a great thread to find because I think you will start seeing more great looking guns that are normally just plain janes. I know the ones pictured and the one I did make them so much more, can’t wait to carry mine into the woods this fall for sure!!! Thanks All for a New way to finish stocks!! Reds

Did the wire scratch the wood at all and did you sand after removing the wire?

My wire also did not dent the wood and I also had already sanded. I will post pics this evening it has been stained and 3 coats of sealer. All products used are by Laurel Mountain Forge. Starting finish this weekend and also color of stain is Honey Maple!!

I did have some 18ga wire leave impressions across the comb of a hard walnut stock I tried to practice on. The 24ga wire did not need worked as hard to bend, so no dents or imprints were left by it. That's why I suggested using 24ga wire. or if I didn't mention it earlier, I am now And zinc, not black. I think it's more reflective and helps.

Bad thing now is I would like to do all that way and change stains for their originality! It just looks sooooo good compared to the same ole same ole!!!

that is the finest results of that process i have ever seen.
i have had more than a few rifles that folks attempted to stripe via rope, string etc. some were ok, others abominable.
now i will go burn some wood.
