I haven't shot my muzzleloader well over a month, been shooting air guns indoors instead. The weather hasn't been good, snow and bitter cold for a week or so. The last few days we've had a nice warm up, so today I got my .40 out and shot a little.

The rifle was built for 25 yard offhand matches, 42" Rice with a large Siler lock. I've been shooting Schutzen 3F since finishing the build earlier this year. Swiss finally became available so I ordered five pounds and received it last week. The general consensus from what I've read is that Schutzen is dirtier than Swiss. Looking at my patches (I wipe after each shot) I'll agree, but it's not much.

I need to sit down at the bench and do some load testing with the Swiss, I've already done it with the Schutzen and 30 grains shot best.

I may shoot the Swiss off the bench tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be nice again, then go south starting Monday.

From the bench 25 and 30 grains of Schutzen.

Yes, my targets are re-purposed, LOL. Five shots at 50 yards from a Winchester 52D with aperture sight.

Never tried coconut oil. Was it straight or some mix with ballistol? Wasn’t sure with your notes.

I tried the "dry" patch deal with Ballistol/water mix and my rifle didn't like it. I didn't either, fouling was horrible, and it was hard to load. Being a tight arse, and having a bunch of Ballistol/water mix (dry) patches I started experimenting dampening them with different lubes. Pretty much anything (damp) lessened the fouling and made loading much easier. The coconut oil is by far the best I've tried, when I shoot up all of the Ballistol/water/ coconut oil patches I'll try straight coconut oil.

This and $1.75 will buy a cup of coffee in some places.
