Have to brag on my trade gun this weekend. Went to the range to do a bit of revolver instruction, and figured on shooting the smoothbore afterwards. The student was shooting a .36 cal Colt navy, and I was using a .22 to run some of the instruction.

Well, and couple of visitors to the club steeped over to the other end of the 25 yd range and pulled out their 7.62 plastic stocked semi auto bull barreled scoped whatchamacallits shot off of the rest. And they started puffin out their chests and doing the "I am the meanest...on this range" stuff.

So, I quietly stepped line, and proceeded to load up the trade gun. As I did I heard the "who does this guy think he is...Daniel #$@%^$& Boone!"

I took and offhand hold, the old gun fired flawlessly, and I had done my part. With a very respectable boom, the ball cut the X ring. (This was something that they had yet to accomplish.) I did drop two of the next 14 out of the black, but that trade gun did it's job.

Afterwards, one of the "jerks" came over, with his tail between his legs, and asked what caliber my rifle was. The look on his face was great when I told him it was a .62 caliber. But the shock was even better when I explained that it wasn't rifled.

He didn't take me up on my offer to shoot it. Maybe next time! ::
