Just wanted to share another money saving tip...

Tom Fuller black english flints...3/4"w x 7/8"L...and TC's redesigned Flint lock assemblies really seem to have been made for each other...and I've posted before about shooting a 50 shot range session on the same flint and often not even having to knapp it while doing so...and I’ve also posted about the times when I’ve been able to shoot a second 50 shot session on the same flint with only a couple of light knapps.

But now I’ve tried something else...I took a couple of used flints from the “used flint jar” I toss them into after a range session, and using the diamond grinding wheel shown below, literally cut down/shaped a new bevel/slope on them and I’ve shot another 50 shot range session on each one as if they were brand new flints! Only takes a minute each...you can get the diamond cutter wheels here: http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/PROD/dremel-diamond-wheel-1/BDL34

Thank you for the tip.
The cost of caps ( percussion) are getting up there, making flint even more attractive, I only have five (5)flintlock rifles, and twelve ( 12) percussion , but getting 50 to 100 shots out of a flint, makes it even more affordable.

Roundball's on the money. However I would like to add to his post. Be very careful of the silica dust from the flint. It is deadly. Wear a mask and it wouldn't hurt to have a small fan, blowing on your flint. Do it "outside"!! Watch for overheating the flint, if done it will fracture, either in your hand, when you tighten the jaws, or last when it hits the frizzen, depending on where the overheating was. The wheels dull fairly fast and get hot if you try to go too fast and do too much at one time.
Another method that I think works better and eliminates the heat and dust problem is to use a DMT "XXcoarse" 8" diamond stone. Put in a pan of water thats about 1/8" over top of the stone. Grind away. Works surprisingly fast for tops, bottoms and bevel's and will never wear out...
For sure try one method or another. You don't even want to know what has and is going to happen with flint pricing and availability..
