1. From the time you ordered the lock, how long before you received it?
2. Do you plan on a long gun in a sporting type with maybe a rifled barrel? Or a plainer military type smooth bore?

Ricky, I sent a down payment about 18 months before the lock was ready. I have decided to have Mike Brooks build me a short smoothbore based on the controversial Beretta-built John Alden gun.

Hi Bill. Now THAT should be an interesting project. I wonder if Mike's ever built a gun utilizing a Wheel Lock? He sure builds a great looking gun. Own three myself. Any idea where you might find a barrel for this project?

Ricky, since the NRA refuses to measure or release measurements of the Alden gun, it will have to be an approximation. I am now looking at details and trying to scale the parts. Probably will just use a Colerain barrel. May try to bang out the trigger guard on my anvil using some wrought iron I have on hand.

The problem I have had with wheelies is the wheel pivot point sticking out where the barrel wants to be. It can limit the size of barrel that will fit. Have you tried holding a barrel up against the pan yet?

Probably not, I am an engineer. All I see are the problems :rotf:

The axle cannot be much more than the radius of the wheel down from the barrel centre line.

The axle pivot cannot even start closer to the plate than the width of the mainspring.

It has to be a compromise of radius and width.
