"...I have a .50 cal Hawken a friends built for me.
I use the smokeless powder.
and 150 grain pellets.
How much powder do I put in? 150?
If not how much? thanks..."

What about the majority who refuse to read up on the hobby, refuse to read the instructions, don't have a PC or know about ML forums to ask questions...
:shocked2:

I hope ya jumped in there with both feet and invited the fool kid to come over here and become enlightened before he kills himself and those surrounging him?

I sure hope he means BP substitute and not really Smokeless.

I'm sure he does. 150 grs. of smokeless and I don't think he'd have fired it but once.

Hey Rebel727 when do we get to be 45 calibers??? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Roundball,
Do you really think Bubba there was really serious or just trying to start something?Could he possibly be THAT stupid? If that question was posted on another site{I have no doubt it was}This guy must have been around some. After all he had Brains enough to type without mis-spelling all the words.I think guys like that are just trying to get a Charge out of people.
My opinion...FWIW :v

Heck, you don't wanna ba a measly .45 cal. You need to set yer sights high. Go for the .75 cal. All you need is strong fingers, and nothing else to do with yer life like me.

Believe it or not, :shocked2: Savage Arms recommends the use of Smokeless Powder for their Savage Model ML-II Muzzleloader when shooting Saboted conical bullets. Loades are specified for:

IMR SR4759
Accurate Amrs XMP-5744
VIHTAVOURI N-110

The do however, also recommend black powder or a substitute for bore sized conical bullets.

There may be other manufacturers out there doing the same thing.

Go Figure :shocked2:

Who knows where this is going to lead?

yeah but he said it was a Hawken. I seriously doubt the Savage could stand 150 grs. of smokeless.

That's my point...and somebody new is going to hear bits & pieces, be in a hurry, grab some IRM4064 off the shelf, and.....

That's just natures way of getting them out of the gene poll, so they can't teach the wrong method to the next generation. :winking:

Well not to fear everyone he asked the question on another quality hunting site and everything is cool. He was calling Pyrodex Select "smokeless" but about ten people chewed him a new orafice before he clarified what he was shooting.

Whew - the boy saved himself a post-humous nomination for the 2006 Darwin Awards. :rotf:

That's 'cause they designed it to. The breech system is hellforstrong.

I don't think it's a good idea - mainly because people are stupid and will think "what's good for the goose..." - but in that gun, using that system, and appropriate loads by weight, it's as safe as any other ML.

Not that I have any desire to own one. :shake:

Read in yesterday's news that "mouse potato" made the new dictionary. Just in case you are as out of touch as I was, it is the computer-generation's equivalent of the "couch potato".
