I must be a mouse tater too. Between reading/posting on four forums and moderating one I spend a lot of time online and not enough time out shooting.

Those Savages have 4140 Chrome Moly steel barrels too. There have been reports here and there of them coming apart with smokeless loads also.

These recycled car body, imported italian barrels have not the tensile strength of modern barrels. New centerfire barrels are expected to hold up to 75,000 psi chamber pressure safely. A previous thread in here mentioned that an italian barrel was marked as proofed at something like 15,000 psi. Lotsa difference. There are some of the BP Cartridge shooters using that SR powder, as Frankfort arsenal did start loading the .45-70's with smokeless along about 1895. However, it is my biased, prejudiced, opinion that this should not be encouraged, and probably not even discussed lest someone get to trying it and end up blowing something to kingdom come, and then the liability will roll downhill like a big doo-doo ball.

I know all of that. I mearly wanted to point out that at least one manufacturer is promoting smokeless powder in a muzzleloader. Then you have the State of Virgina re-writing its muzzleloading season and specifying 50 gr. of smokeless powder in a muzzleloader.   Which happens to be more than any of the Savage recommended loads. :hmm: :hmm: The logical conclusion is someone or more than one someone, with a GCT half his body temperature, will read the rules and go out and buy the cheapest muzzleloader he can find load it with 50 gr. of smokless powder and race of the lawyers will begin. :( :( :( :( :( :(

Does anyone remember 3-wheel ATVs. :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake:

Mother government will have to step in and protect us all, again. :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:

My Tinfoil Propeller Beanie tells me that everything you said is entirely by design as a way to "reign in" the currently uncontrolled and largely unregulated ML community...

Or maybe it's just the lead fumes spiking my paranoia... :winking:

Folks have been blowing up muzzleloaders for a few hundred years now...I have heard of several stories in the past 30 some years of guys using powder that they had emptied from shotgun shells...Its no different than some of the idiots that go out and buy a chainsaw, when they have never used one in their life...a receipe for disaster...Or the fools from New Jersey that I fished out of the middle of Currituck Sound a few years back at 9:30 at night...Their kayaks had turned over in a 25 mph wind...These guys had never been on a kayak in their life...

What is it that guy says..."YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID"

We already have one down here! It's called the "stupid motorist law" and makes the driver responsible for the costs of hauling him out of a flooded wash if he drove into it after the road was signed as 'closed.' There is a fine to go along with it. Doesn't seem to stop folks from trying... not only do the ones who get stuck get fined, they get their pic on the evening news

There are some of the BP Cartridge shooters using that SR powder, Ya a lot of them do, I think something has got missed here or maybe its just me..the smokeless is by "weight" not the way we do black powder so all of this has me a little  Fred :hatsoff: ( I only shot those those "load at the wrong end rifles "Sharps,Rem,ect" for about 10 years (till the NRA saw money could be made and jumped in :cursing: it all up) saw a few shooters useing smokeless every week, no blow ups I belive one sprung action ,they didnt out shoot the BPs at all just made the bullet faster to miss with. :rotf: )

What do you mean contemplatin? There are already several Federal and most states have their own laws making it illegal to be STUPID. But that's another subject.
