I just picked up a left handed, cap lock, with set trigger, 54 cal renegade kit at a sporting shop. Looks like it was there for a long time. Does anyone know when this was made. I couldnt pass it up for 220 dollars.

Might be able to tell a little better with some closeup photos...if the barrel is still in the white, it's probably at least from back in the 80's...in any case, being one of the very rare left handed models, $220 is a steal especially if you wanted a left handed model.

Thanks for the reply Roundball. The barrel and all parts are blued. There was no manual with it, in fact the box it was in didnt have a lid and I inventoried it to make sure all the parts were there. Like I mentioned, it had set on the shelf for a very long time.
I am left handed so this find was great for me. Will post pictures when I figure out how to do it.

OK, if the barrel is blued then it's a little newer...they got away from the blue-it-your-selfers because typically the barrels turned out terrible looking and TC didn't like their name beiung on that stuff...so they started furnishing pre-blued barrels in kits the last 10-15 years as best I can recall.

Another way to tell is the front sight. The earlier Renegades came with a blade, "patridge style" front sight. the later ones have the bead style.

I have a LH .50 Renegade caplock I purchased new in 1986. Came with the blade front sight. I swaped it with the bead sight when I installed the TC Hunter Peep Sight. Rifle has put a good amount of venison on the table over the years. Last time I used was two seasons ago and took two deer with it. Been using my .50 TC Hawkin Cougar the past couple of years. Both fine rifles.
