We shoot matches here year-round and it can get pretty durn cold in the Winter and the wind comes whistlin' down the holler. All I use to wipe with is a patch dampened with water followed by a dry patch after each shot. The alcohol sure helps, especially when I want to wipe the frizzen and pan. Carrying some alcohol packets is a good idea. I keep a couple in my box, but generally just use the alcohol/water mix in my little spray bottle.

I like shooting in cool/cold weather, but sometimes we wonder why in the world we punish ourselves. Guess we'd rather shoot than be comfortable. Got time to breathe, got time to shoot.

I like the alcohol after cleaning as I figure it helps remove the old, dirty oil as well as take up any moisture. Then, when the barrel is clean, I reoil it for protection. All I can say is it seems to work for me in my cleaning routine.

I have found that pouring alcohol and Murphys down the bore and pump with a patch and let set for 30 minutes will clean the gun. It seems alcohol melts the carbon. I also put alcohol in revolver chambers and force it thru the nipples. I never have to snap caps before loading.

I use denatured alcohol after cleaning the lock & barrel to get rid of water, then let sit a few minutes before oiling.
Before shooting I squirt a little down the barrel & put a little on a patch to get the oil out of the barrel, flash channel ,& touchhole.
I then take the patch & wipe the pan & frizzen.
I have no rust or ignition problems.
A quart last a l o n g time.
I don't know if I realy need the denatured but it works great for me. If it works don't fix it.

Freezing isn't a concern in most of the Southeast. Certainly I'll go hunting in freezing temps but never to the range. The kid has thin blood and bundles up mightily for the woods in below 32 degree weather.

If you shoot a flinter take an alcoh. wet cloth and clean the lock parts,(pan, frizzen, cock, flint) the next time try a water wet cloth and take note of the differnce in the way the fouling dissolves.
