Has anyone had luck using an alox coated rb with a nitro over powder card and shot card over the rb to hold it in. Was trying .530 and now going to .535 in my .54 smoothbore. I'm only trying for about a 3" are thereabouts group at 50 yards. :hmm:

IIRC alox works great with smokeless powder. The black powder cartridge shooters use a different lube, SPF I think, which is more compatable with the crud the BP leaves in the barrel and therefore easier to clean up.

Otherwise you may have better luck if you patched the roundball.

My 58 does ok with a .570 and card wads. I just thumb some of my lube on the cards then the ball.

Coating a ball in alox in my humble opinion would be a waste.

B.

N-SSA smoothbore shooters have a love affair with alox. Double dipped round ball and i believe it is between 40 and 50 grains of FFF Swiss, no card/wad. One of the guys I shoot with tried it in his NSW Officers Fusil and claimed he could adjust for right and left. I guess I am going to try it too in my NSW Fusil.
