This is my mod. I just filed the wing smooth drilled it and put in a screw and removed the waves from the circle. It is still flush mounted.
 
To keep wood screws from eroding out, coat the threads with some good wax, dribble a bit of thin epoxy into the screw hole, then install the screw. When the epoxy is cured, remove the wood screw, clean the threads, and re-install. Not HC, but it works, and doesn't show on the outside. I prefer two lock bolts mainly for esthetics. And LOTS of side plates to select from.
 
Thanks for the comments, I wnt ahead and modified it and it looks much better, now I will start researching a better stain to bring out some of the shades in the wood, round the edges of the barrel channel, and maybe chamfer the trigger guard plate a bit.
