I have "Thoughts On the Kentucky Rifle in its Golden Age" by Joe Kindig, Jr. I think it's one of the best, but that's just my opinion.

What is the definative book on early American flintlock design history?
A good general coverage is found in,
"THE PENNSYLVANIA-KENTUCKY RIFLE" by Henry Kauffman.

Another good book on the subject is,
"The Kentucky Rifle" by Captain John G. W. Dillin

These are both older books but they represent the best knowledge at the time they were published.

Since then, there has been some disagreement with some of the points and conclusions the authors reached but generally speaking they both do a fine job of covering the history and features of the American longrifle.
