I interested in full membership in the American Mountain Men, I've tried several times to contact them to get a better understanding on how to initiate membership (website tell you what the requirements are and has contact emails). Over the past several months I have emailed different officers and have yet to receive a reply. Anyone out there that is familiar with the AMM that could offer some direction or help would be appreciated. Thanks

If there is a local Brigade, and you've found the contact info for them,, and they haven't responded(?)
It's typical of the kind of stuck up pricks we have here in Minn as AMM too.
The guy's are nice enough as individuals, and participate in several local vous like many of us, but mention "membership" and they act like you just swore at'm.
The only "new" members they've taken in the last decade are son-in-laws of current members.

It's an "elite" group, and they either want you in or they don't.

I guess I don't blame them a lot, membership involves a current member as a sponsor, so there's personal time involved and not just a little.

There is an article on the AMM in the Nov/Dec issue of the MUZZLELOADER magazine that states that anyone can join as an associate member and receive their magazine and newsletter. This may be a place to start.
It lists their web address as: www.mtmen.org

I have been considering attempting to join for several years too. I think we may have a more difficult time not being out west or in the KY and TN area.
I hope you have better luck with the publication.

When I first heard about them I also was interested in joining. Then as I found out more information about the group I decided that like Will Rogers
"I would not want to join an organization that would have a member like me". While I consider some of the members to be true friends, as an organization they seemed to be to "closed" for me. I will stick to groups that encourage new members! :idunno: :idunno:

Bendback,
I would suggest contacting both the Brigade Leader and the Segundo for your area by phone and or by mail, let them know of your interest, and ask if you can meet up with them at a rendezvous or shoot. At that point you will probably get an invitation to camp with or shoot with them. I am currently a probationary member. I shared several camps with the MD-VA-WV brigade before I committed to asking to join. In my opinion, there is a lot to be learned from this group. My personal experience is that they want people that are willing to learn (and teach) and not cut corners. Camps are void of all plastic. Coolers and water containers are tolerated when kept covered with canvas and out of sight. No screw top bottles. No lighters or firemaking cheats. My experience has been most positive, I am sorry to hear that other have not shared the same experience. May you fare well!

Blessings, Bill
