I am planning on browning the lock plate on my GPR kit. Do I have to take the lock apart and brown just the plate or can I brown the part with the hammer attached? I am concerned about possibly slowing the lock speed or making the lock non-functional by having some of the browning soluton get into the part. Thanks, again, from a newbie builder!

Elk Chaser,

I browned my GPR lock plate, took it all apart.

The only problem was the spring, I took an old

screw driver and filed a 1/8 inch slot in the

blade and used it to push the spring back so I

could remove it and the pin, the rest was easy.

Good luck.

Yep, you got to take the lock apart. I use a mainspring vise to remove the mainspring.
