Thanks to all for the warm welcome.
I live a couple of miles east of the Village of Clinton, in southeastern Oneida County. About 10 miles or so south-southwest of Utica.
For longer than I've been alive, my family has owned a few hundred acres in the Town of Forestport (also Oneida County - northeast corner of it), on Kayuta Lake, right along the division between the Adirondacks (on our side of the lake - actually one of, if not the only, reservoirs on the Black River along it's northward journey to Watertown and Lake Ontario) and Tug Hill. I spent most of my youth there. Tug Hill and the Adirondacks are where my heart calls home. Although less and less frequent, I take every chance I get to tramp around different parts of those two regions. I used to travel the entire state for various and sundry employment that I've had, as well as other parts of the country. I can't think of a place in this beautiful land that I haven't liked. Some more than others, but all of it just wonderful. Still, one's heart will always play favorites at times, and this is mine.
I'm leary of posting too much on this introduction forum, I read the rules and am not sure if other issues besides strict introduction would violate anything. If so, I'll post on more appropriate places; either way, kindly let me know.
Yes, it always seems to be on the run. But I have this thing .... a family that just keeps on demanding a roof over their head, food on the table and electric lights and indoor plumbing and the list goes ON!! lol! Actually, I love all things old. I work with wood but I use no power tools. Sure, those tools that I do use that are not from a couple of centuries ago were certainly produced with modern methods and machinery, adn, therefore, electric power. I'm no snob about it. I just like everything that I make to be made in a manner that is by hand power. My canoe... paddles... bows... etc. I'm not being hypocritical, at least I don't think I am. I just enjoy using what I do, and not at all against anything else that anyone else would choose as a tool. Heck, I've even used stone tools on occasion. They just don't last as long.
Same for arms. I've got muzzleloaders, moredn rifles/shotguns/handguns, and bows - modern recurves, selfbows I've made myself, and more to be made.
It sure is a welcome change of pace, too.
