Thanls bud . Yeah , kind of the same thing here . I never thought I'd have another anvil , they are too darn expensive and I can't afford one or as you said , I couldn't justify the cost any way as the railroad track I'm using as an anvil is working just fine but ....low and behold this here anvil just drops in my lap via my buddy . Go figure !
I replaced my heart with an ignot of pure lead from @Justin.44. Problem solved.
Thats my problem with new gun parts! that and SWMBO says I need to sell 2 guns to buy 1, need to thin the herd a bit!LOL !! Meetin a lady blacksmith would be great ! Naw , the women always whine about needin money and my heart starts to workin on me and I end up selling my equipment to.make em happy . Has happened every time . Funny thing .... the standing joke at coffee time each morning ...a pretty lady will walk by and the fellers will say " The new forge is in trouble !! "

Welp , yer smarter than me . Plus ... Fat , short , redheads dont get many chances with pretty women .... They start talkin sweet and battin them eye lashes and I'm beggin folks to buy my guns and tools !! LOL !! Hopefully ive learned my lesson though ....we'll see ! Gettin scared ... I have a forge , an anvil and even got a N.W. trade gun !! It sounds like I'm about to find " true love " ( cough , cough hack!! ) again soon !?!! Lord help me .....

I am so lucky, My wife encourages me to get into blacksmithing. So far I've got a 93 lb Hay Bedden, a 20 ton HF air over hydraulic press. She suggested that because of my infirmities she doesn't want me to hurt myself. I built my own brake drum forge, she bought me a leg vice, and a Mr. Volcano gas forge. God smiled on me when I found her!

Railroad track actually works pretty well if you get a 5' chunk and sink about 2' in the ground in concrete. Small working surface on the end but it rebounds well and you can do some real work on one.

We use to have a junk yard that sold you scrap iron by the pound, no matter what shape it was in. From railroad iron to chains, iron was iron. It has since ceased operations. I really should have gotten my butt down there. I heard besides RR iron there were a few anvils there. I am also wondering about these cast iron anvils sold by Harbor Freight. Is there really such a thing as a cast iron anvil? And if so how do they hold up?

Nice! I have a 275 lb. anvil that sat on my neighbor's yard for 50 yrs. until he retired. I don't do any 'smithing, but the anvil displayed in my front yard brings offers to buy and comments; it's on a poplar stump. No markings whatsoever on it, and the surface would need re-surfacing if wanting to use by someone. Your markings are great, nice to have an ID on it!

I bought a benchtop anvil from HF. It seems a little soft. Edges probably won’t hold up well.
Had a warning label on the side: USE ONLY FOR INTENDED PURPOSE
They are Junk!
HF used to sell actual cast iron anvils. They made okay boat anchors.
The new ones are cast steel and have induction-hardened tops. I have a Vevor farrier's anvil and it is pretty good. Horn is soft, the little platen at the base of the horn is soft (as it should be, it is a sacrificial surface for cutting and punching), and the rest of it 75-85% rebound.

Looks broken! Trade you some bullets for it.
