In my limited experience with 777 (3-4 lbs.) I found it harder to ignite and I never found a load that gave as good of groups as real black powder.

Cleanup would have been easy if not for a very hard carbon ring near the breech that took a heckuva lot of scrubbing to break it up. Cleaning up after real black powder is so easy that I can't imagine anything easier. A little soapy water and you're done.

The one thing I did notice about 777 is that it gave better velocities, even at reduced charges. That was nice in revolvers, but of no real benefit shooting round balls out of rifles.

Considering how cheap real black powder can be mail ordered and the fact that it doesn't degrade over time, I don't understand why the subs manage to stay so popular. I've tried several of them and always came back to the real thing because it just works better.

Randy Wakeman compared black powder to the substitutes at "chuckhawks.com" . You can get a few facts there . I shoot triple seven in my lyman GPR .54 and have had real good luck with it . Goex , or the hotter burning Swiss or for that matter ANY black powder isnt offered in my little town so I stick with the 777 because I know I can get it anytime I need it .

I started with "real BP" 30 yrs ago. It got so there was none around here so I used RS Pyrodex. I now have a source for BP again and will go back. I never had any problem setting off RS with #11's although my brother has(another story).
I keep some around that I have had for yrs and it always goes off. Where is it written that it loses power? I still have a square paper can of the first yr made and goes off everytime.
