I kill (not hunt) squirrels all year on my property. If I don't that 'squirrel' up the electrical transformers and we get power outages. Plus they do other damage. I just shoot from my back door with a no-no and leave them for the 'yotes and coons.
Different strokes for different folks. I've been feeding them on my property for the last 45+ years, and I couldn't put a price on the entertainment they have provided in return. Never had them damage anything that I'm aware of. They frolic right outside a large picture window, like having a private zoo, and I've learned a lot by just observing them. They have been thick during this latest spate of frigid weather, as have the birds.

Our season ends Feb. 28, and I may have another go or two, but I don't usually hunt them this time of year. When the weather gets cold my brain switches from squirrels to rabbits.

Yeah, have a back yard full of them and enjoy having them around...meanwhile, I drive a 60 mile round trip to go squirrel hunting, LOL.

AND”¦they can be quick”¦compare these 2 photos:

Have not seen as many behind the house this year
2 reasons that I suspect.
1. No acorns or nuts this year as in the past years

2. There is a rogue Red Tail Hawk hunting them. I see it flying through out the woods almost daily.
I have found several rabbits shredded on the yard lawn. This bird sets on a telephone pole across from my house .It even had the nerve to go after our cat (twice). Cat comes in the house and looks like it was electric shocked. Hair standing out in all directions. Stays inside for days on end .
I may have to have a talk with this bird.

our season for skwerl ended 12-31 (AZ) we have some cool ones. I have a new (used) 20 GA I can play with all summer and then decide between it and the .32 or .36.

But, with the serious cold this winter I haven't seen many at all. Must be napping.

That's a waste of a game animal. Some states also call it a felony!

Finally !!! Just primed the 28ga and took a seat at 2:00pm...sunny, 43*...hopefully some squirrels will be moving before dark

been way to cold here but plan to go out in the morning if it isn't pouring rain like they are predicting,my luck it will be

Gunna be in the low 50's here this weekend gunna get the traps back out, and do some slow trap checking/tree rat blasting myself.

Hunted til dark...never saw or heard the first squirrel.
But this spike came wandering through around 4:00pm...looks close because of the 200mm telephoto lens but was probably 50yds away.

Went out today for roughly 3 hours. Did not see squirrel 1. Heard 1 barking. Could not locate him . Beautifull day, thought sure it would pay off. Rain next couple of days .So will have to wait again.

Yes, the forecast has turned a little more ugly than originally planned...freezing every morning for the next few days, with rain that's over GA & SC right now moving up over NC tomorrow and Saturday...and of course we can't hunt Sunday.
So another 3 days of catching up indoor projects...the good news is I'll overhaul the 28ga EVA tomorrow and then all the post-deer season annual overhauls will be done

No but that pic was from a few weeks ago. Going this afternoon with a little white on the ground. Had a rain last week that took out the ten inches we had. Fine by me!

Not to change the subject, but good going on the squirrel. I just LOVE your hunting bag! I need a couple like that for my shotguns and fowlers.Did you make it?

Have been hunting with my first-build .36 caliber flintlock and I have to the end of the month. Every trip has had precipitation (mostly snow) and the rifle has fired each time. It is an arm stretcher, but I do love carrying it in the woods.

Saw nothing yesterday. Saw no squirrels on last week's trip, but was surrounded by 7 or 8 deer that seemingly wanted to bed exactly where I was sitting. It was a hollow, out of the wind near a thicket. Two weeks ago we saw one squirrel right after leaving the truck. It was gone in a flash. My friend remarked "These squirrels are much smarter than the ones at my house..." and I had to agree. Late season public land squirrels are very smart.

Will keep trying and at least get a pic.
