Anybody here ever heard the term 'rip-off Britain'?

Well, at least you can buy percussion caps! here in New South Wales it is now impossible to buy any type of percussion cap. I recently emailed the main Australian importer of CCI and Remington caps in desperation, they have had caps on back order for two years now. It is now so grim that going forward only flintlocks will be able to shoot. Who would have thought that in 2024 it is easier to buy a gun flint than a percussion cap!

Swagman, when caps were really short supplied in Europe I bought a kit for making your own percussion caps using a solvent and crushed match heads. The kit comes with a metal template for making the body of the caps, the solution itself and an optional 25 reusable brass cap bodies. I have never used this, because within a week of buying it caps here became plentiful again. If you are interested PM me for details.

Whilst in Perth WAu I found some things difficult so bought from eBay uk. Typical was a roof rack for a Subaru. It cost £32 postage Yodel or something and took 7 weeks to arrive .

I looked at and bought some

Making an explosive device in Australia is about the same as here in UK. Nope.
Yes I agree there are limits to everything , making explosive is just over the edge, especially for kids, UK or in Oz, it came home in my teens when a local in Bridport when an 18 year old lad made a weed killer gun pipe bomb for gun, he was hammering the end to seal it and exploded, not much of his hand left , stupid lad . Push you luck
and you get it burnt. Gun laws in the 1960s were fine , but with gun crime increasing over the years , the rest is history . I guess the uk home office wants a gun free uk. But that’s hurting innocent shooters , but criminals will still use guns . It’s a no win situation . I’ll try not to get angry. I like French gun laws , they are sensible . But don’t go out in the hunting season , many people are accidentally killed , but they still don’t ban guns.

I had better stop ranting on

Thanks for the information. I have just found out that one of our club members has ordered a a similar kit from the US and it was delivered a day or two ago. Our Christmas shoot & BBQ is this coming Sunday and i am going to advise all of our members to order at least one of these kits, this will at least keep us going until a shipment of caps finally makes it down here! I am also going to try and make an order on behalf of the club direct with the Oz distributor so that when they do come in we can perhaps cut out the middle man (gun shops).
Cheers

The material that comes in these kits is 4 separate chemicals that when combined with rubbing alcohol makes the percussive compound, there is nothing that I can see in the NSW Firearms Act that specifically prohibits this.

Really? What about paper cartridges?
Not mentioned at all in the legislation due to the fact that is was drafted ignoring all of the submissions from the NSW Muzzle Loading Association and thus it was legislated by public servants with little knowledge of modern firearms and zero knowledge of black powder firearms!

Indeed, this kit arrived by post without any hazmat fee or special requirements - but again, this is France where gun legislation is comparatively light by non US standards. Are you able to send for one?

It's nice to know that your gubmint is so enlightened. Here in UK, with 30+ years of homemade terrorism, things are a little more circumspect.

That's the government excuse, but so long as the government allows the items below to be sold, they aren't really doing anything other than an illusory act to gain public confidence and votes, while the danger still persists....,

"an illusory act to gain public confidence and votes"
.
So true, because the only way for the Government to "keep you safe" from your fellow citizens is to implement a full on 'police state'. And that's not 100% effective because it's still run by a bureaucracy, which by its very nature is inefficient- so some incidents will still slip through the cracks.
.
So the reality is with each vote the citizens sacrifice a little more of their Liberty for a promise that can never be fully achieved.
.
Or put another way, if relying on the Government for your safety - a person must be willing to sacrifice much Liberty for little safety.
.
Safety comes when the 'bad actors' realize every action results in 'kicking a yellow jackets nest."
