Squirrel season opens tomorrow here in Ohio, and I for one can’t wait to get out in the woods with my small caliber muzzleloaders. Anyone else excited about some small game hunting this fall/winter? If so, what’s your weapon of choice?

Normally I'd be having an adrenaline rush over that. But I haven't hunted in 6 years and likely won't doing it anymore.

I'm hoping to just get to the shooting range . Started off with spring turkey season , May first , wife and I both got some sort of "covid like " , sickness. That was good for five weeks down. Recovering from that , We went away for a week's vacation. That went ok, but ate up another couple of weeks , prep time and chores. Then wife had an incident with her heart , complete with heart cath , etc.. A week later , another heart development , emergency room visit with defibrilator , and another four days in the hosp. . Only thing , I hope this hospital BS , is over and done. Wife is ok on $300 a month meds. , and again , I'll settle for a couple hours at the range w/my hunting rifles. Combo m/l deer and bear season , is on in Pa. in about six weeks. Gettin' old sucks. Seems like all your life , ya bust your A$$ ,get smart enough ta git along, then your body begins to fail. I know , whine , whine whine , sorry about that , and wish ya all well. ...................oldwood:ThankYou:

I for one, am ready to blast some squirrels this fall and winter. Here in Arkansas, squirrel season opens in the middle of May and runs till the end of Feb. Most of the time it's just downright miserable walking the woods from mid June on into late September.

Dad and I plan on making a few hunts with the smallbores this year. Hopefully we can find a quiet part of Ouachita NF to bag some.

Weapons of choice are:
Dixie Tennessee .32 flint
Pedersoli Frontier .36 flint

backup pieces are the trusty 20/.62 flint trade gun loaded with no. 6.
and an early 1900's Hopkins and Allen black powder 12G

My favorite time to get on them is when the leaves have fallen and they're cutting nuts. CAN'T WAIT!!

Still working overtime. The Richmond In. officer that was shot three weeks ago was removed from life support this morning and passed soon there after. Will be helping with coverage this week in their city until after services occur but am glad to be able to help them out.

I sure wish we had a squirrel season here. They are classed as fur bearing and can only be trapped on public lands, buy the trapline owner. We do also only have red squirrels, not any of them big guys ya’ll got!
Walk

Our season starts tomorrow. hopefully get to hunt next week. Just received a barrel back from Bobby Hoyt, pedersoli 50 bored to 54 smooth, looks great. Can't wait to pattern and hunt with it in a few days.

I'm in Ohio as well and look forward to getting out as well, just need it to cool down a little bit. Typically I use my 36 caliber Lehigh, but I also have 28 gauge fowler that I recently got my ignition problems fixed that I plan on using in the early season.
