Anyone else thinks this looks like manure?

Im talking about the 7 o clock to midnight of the muzzle. Its so out of round, its practically oval...i don't even know how something like this could be drilled...how does something like this even happen at the factory. I have never seen a drill capable of drilling an oval!...i need to know what went wrong at least before i can figure out if it can be fixed, honestly ordering a new barrel seems like a crapshoot if this is what ended up from their manufacturing process...project weather is coming soon, and work will be winding down a bit. Would like to make improvements on this gun as i am really fond of it...i just don't see how it is possible that the entire interior of the barrel follows this shape. Thats not how drill bits work! What is going on here?

I do have a theory on what went wrong, but in the interest of gaining other perspectives, i dont want to state it and bias other peoples opinion...my theory could be wrong...

Well it has always hit minute of squirrel head to 8 yards. And have killed a few in the past with it, but even as a pistol, i still think its capable of farther. At 25 yards the groups are just minute of deer vitals....and I am much more capable of better accuracy at that range with a handgun...

I wonder how the initial barrel blank was drilled. That looks like a poorly secured piece of steel at the muzzle end. I wonder if it's that bad for the entire length or if it centers down a few inches deeper than the muzzle. So that shortening would fix it? On the other hand Bobby Hoyt might be able to ream it out true....

My thought is the barrel blank was drilled, and then cut to length, which was not square. The reason i think so is that this barrel is offered in lengths from 12" down to 4 3/4", and they are likely just cut down from a 12" blank after drilling.not cutting the muzzle to square would definitely result in ovalness, in varying degrees depending on how bad it is out of square...right?

It looks fine from the side profile, but an error of a 64th or 32nd is not something my eyes could distinguish...

Improper sharpening of drill bit can cause oval hole. Just a thought

Would a simple crowning job fix something that far off, or would i actually need to cut the muzzle a 16th" shorter, to. Square it up and recrown? It seems pretty far off to me as it is now...

Well, the face of the muzzle doesn't look to be "factory" finished. It look's more like a hack-saw job that was crudely filed and sanded.
Do you have a history with the rifle/revolver??
I'm guessing it's not a rifle,, there's no place for a ramrod.
What is it?

I am the only owner...but i have worked at places where the supervisor constantly says that looks good and god damn it work faster...in fact i work at a place like that now... and its in skilled labor...so i am probably one of those customers who suffered at the hands of that kind of supervision. I am looking to correct the work that was not allowed to be done as it should be, which i really think was in the squareness of the muzzle of that barrel blank...my god, in formsetting and carpentry, how many times have i been told to hurry up and work faster, even though it wasn't square or on the string line...i feel sorry for the customers, which in this case, was me.

at least the appearance. probably the accuracy.

If you can’t cut it back to a true cylinder then having it sleeved is an option but that might be as costly as buying a used replacement.

Don't compromise yourself as labor or a consumer. (period)
It's unacceptable. I have never seen a factory Pietta,, or any other factory revolver in that condition.
Take a stand,, for yourself.
You don't have to measure, square, or prove yourself to them,, send them the photo you shared here.
It's a quality issue,, send it back.
Don't expect them to send ya another next week,, as a matter of reality you should expect them to argue and drag their feet,
But you demonstrating to us, that you have a factory flawed product,, won't get ya a different one any sooner.
You have the full endorsement of the forum to go ahead and return your factory flawed item.
In other words, "atta boy" your right!

This pistol is more than well used and has been for several years by now. I am a god damn quick and speedy hip shot with it, excuse my language...at 10 yards, at least... but i know it can reach out to 25 yds like my other pistols do... honestly id have more bargaining power at this point in time if i ordered a replacement barrel and was complaining about that as this gun has been carried and shot to the point that even the bluing is worn off. Also, from fast hip shooting, i have worn out parts, and ordered replacements...that kind of shooting is hard on a gun, yes, but its also my gun, and my foot. if anyone here knows what i mean...regardless, it has thousands of shots and i am 100% committed to it...
