Looking for info on a muzzleloader I purchased but don't know the make or model. The only identifiers on the barrel are made in Spain, powder, and MONARCH. The previous owner bought it as a kit several years ago.

I haven't heard of a MONARCH, but almost every black powder gun made in Spain is made at the same place.
They are imported with different markings on them but they are basically the same guns.

You didn't give a description of your gun so it's impossible for me to guess which one it is.
Could you be more descriptive?
Is it a Halfstock or does the stock go almost to the muzzle?
What length is the barrel? Does the barrel have a cylinder sticking out the side with the Precussion Nipple screwed into it, or is there a larger contoured block at the rear of the barrel with the nipple screwed into it?

These things, and anything else you can tell us will help us figure out what you have.
:)

I have a Monarck half stock in .50cal cap lock. It is made in Spain, but looks not the same as a CVA.It has a snail type breech plug. I just got this thing this summer and cant not find out much about it. It has a big patch box, odd shape. I will have to do some work to it before I shoot it. Mark/wi

Thanks for your response. The barrel has a half stock and is what I would describe as the typical Hawken style muzzleloader. The patch box is fairly large and has a shamrock looking design on it. I am missing two screws and I believe it is called a z spring for the lock. That is why I am trying to identify the rifle so I can try and find the parts so I don't have to hang it on the wall. I would appreciate any help. I will try and get a picture up as well.

If you can not find the info you need get back to me here. The one I have is missing some things. I got the gun for free. Let me know what parts you need I will give them to you. My lock is complete. Mark/wi

I still have had no luck finding any further information. I am missing the two screws that hold the lock in place and I believe only the z spring (if that is what it is called) is missing from the lock. If you have the parts that would work, I would be willing to purchase them from you. Let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

markco5, I also could not find out anything about the Monarch and mine needs a lot of work. If you send me you mail address I will send the lock and screw to you for the cost of shipping. I will mail it to you and when you get it send me the mailing fee. I hope this gets you going. MarkWi.

My email is [email protected]. Email me and I will reply with my mailing address. Please include a subject in your email so I know it is you and not junk email. Hopefully the parts will work. I would greatly appreciate it.

Ah yes, mine was a MONARCH muzzleloading pistol. It had the word MONARCH on the barrel, a circle with a slanted M with an hourglass shape beneath it inside the circle, then CAL 45, and a 5 character (1 alpha plus 4 numeric) serial number.

It was a rather plain Kentucky styled pistol with a very simple lock, tumbler had no fly, and no adjustment for sear engagement, and only a single lock screw. The half cock was worn badly, and it would release with a trigger pull in half cock mode. It did shoot fairly well for what was obviously an inexpensive pistol. I do 'think' this was a kit gun, by virtue of the wood work being a little sloppy and asymmetrical, but didn't have the previous owner's history on it to confirm or deny anything further. I believe I might have traded that one along with a couple others plus some cash, to acquire a Pedersoli Kentucky pistol.

I'm sure there are replacement parts that would work from other "generic" Spanish muzzleloaders, but if it's working well for you, I would still treat it as gently as possible. I'm not in the habit of overloading or loading heavily... and it has been a very good habit. I don't suffer the breakdowns that many of my muzzleloading friends do (and they tend to load theirs' to the maximum.) It's just not worth it to slowly destroy a working piece of equipment by overdoing things.

I recall that I only paid about $40.00 for it and that was maybe 15 years ago... Sorry I can't offer any more info about it.

How does your's shoot for you?

Regards, and shoot safely!

I have not been able to shoot mine because I am missing some parts but I think I may have found possible replacements. I will let you know how it shoots if they work out.
