Hellow everyone, I have an Armsport .50 cal hawken. I need a new barrel and was wondering if the 28 inch GM barrel from cabelas will fit this rifle or is there something else that will work. Also can I shoot round balls in the 1 in 28 twist barrel.
Thanks.

I have shot some nice groups with a 1:28 barrel using patched round balls. I was using 80 grains of Pyrodex RS under them. You'd be better off with a 1:66 twist. I'm not sure if the barrel will fit or not.

You won't find a drop in replacement barrel so if you really need to replace it look at the various barrel makers, pick out a barrel and try to get as close as you can with breech plug design etc.. With some minor modifications you can re barrel it. Being that it is an older production gun I would think hard about putting that kind of money into it. There are many equivalent quality used rifles out there to be had for $150-200 with good barrels. If money is tight and your barrel is shot (no pun intended) I would sell it on flea bay and look for another rifle with a good barrel. On the other hand, if you have a few spare $$$, then I would say its time to build yourself something new!
