I had a great Elk hunt during the colo muzzleloading season. The hunt was really fine because of the companions. There was lots of great food(some by the wifes and some by us) and the scenery was super. You could see the Elk mtn range in the distance and they were very nice in the evening. There were very few elk as the bowhunters had overran the place earlier and most of the elk were gone. I had a cow tag so of course all I saw were 2 bulls(they were young and to small to legally shoot even if I had a bull license). we were hunting around 9000 ft and it was still fairly warm during the day(not quite tee shirts and tennis shoe warm). Lugged this tired old body up and down and all around and slept very well. For me this was a typical Colo hunt. Great friends, warm weather, fine scenery and few animals. However, I will in Nov go Elk and deer hunting in Wyo, where it is a little different. Great friends, Cool to mighty cold weather, fine scenery and generally a lot of Elk and Whitetail. Wyo does not have a muzzleloading season, but since I hunt the thick stuff, I use my flint during regular rifle season. If I get lucky and get my elk and deer then I can hunt fall turkey also.

Glad to hear you had a good time in Colorado, despite the lack of shooting opportunities. Good luck in Wyoming :front:

Glad to see you had fun. Most of the fun on a hunt comes before you shoot anything. After that it becomes work. I'm not going hunting this year. I just got legal again and still have a lot to do around the place.

I used to hunt in the Bighorns above Buffalo. There were generally elk all over the place. There was an elk refuge around Buffalo that was open to special permit on the first few days of season. I and a few of my friends used to camp above it on Hunter Mesa and Cul Wat areas. When the hunters would light up the refuge, the elk would run up into that area. Rarely had to take more than a 50 yard shot.
