Labonte: you bring up a very good point. Even if we find an "original", what was it originally? Not many original bags remain and they may well have been owned by a town dweller who just hung it up and never used it- which is the reason it is still around. These "town bags" if you want to them that- very well might have been upgraded or better than average bags. Of the originals Those used by longhunters and mountain men could have been very basic.
